Research Topics

Research Topics The main focus of our research is nanophotonics: the study of the interaction of light with structures smaller than the wavelength. Special emphasis is put on plasmonics: the optics of metallic nanostructures, with applications in optical signal processing, integration and biosensing.
As characterization techniques we utilize heterodyne scanning near-field optical microscopy, spectroscopy and time-resolved measurements. The NAM has also a very well established expertise in optical full-field measurement methods.
As much as possible, we try to cover the experimental, fabrication and theoretical aspects of a given topic, since this is the best way to progress on solid ground.

The following pages provide descriptions of the different fields of research in which we are active, as well as the experimental techniques we are using.
